Brock Osweiler is starting for the Dolphins vs. Bears

The Miami Dolphins are going to be without Ryan Tannehill on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, instead turning to Brock Osweiler.

Welcome to Brocktober. Terrible pun? Absolutely, but not quite as bad as the performance most are expecting when Brock Osweiler tries to beat the Bears down on South Beach.

Osweiler is starting over the injured Ryan Tannehill, who will miss his first game of the season with a shoulder ailment. With Tannehill out, Osweiler steps to the fore, officially starting his first game for his third team.

In 43 career games (25 starts), the former Arizona State star has thrown for 32 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, completing 59.3 percent of his passes. The 27-year-old has totaled 6,206 yards on 6.3 yards per attempt.

Osweiler began his odyssey with the Denver Broncos, starting down the stretch in 2015 for the injured/ineffective Peyton Manning. During that time, Khalil Mack had a five-sack game for the Oakland Raiders against Osweiler, something that is very much in play on Sunday.

After starting in Denver, Osweiler jumped ship to the Houston Texans for four years and $72 million, immediately making Houston a punchline. Osweiler started all of 14 games before being benched for the immortal Tom Savage. After the year, the Texans traded Osweiler and a second-round pick to the Cleveland Browns simply to dump him, which was followed by the Browns — a team about to embark on an 0-16 journey — releasing him.

Osweiler ended up back with the Broncos and started four games after Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch were nailed to the bench for their inept play. The Broncos then opted not to re-sign Osweiler for obvious reasons, allowing him to sign a one-year deal with the Dolphins.

It’s borderline incredible that the Broncos, Texans and Dolphins have all been roped into this trope, but here we are.
