Heisman rankings – Week 7: Will Grier tumbles, Tua Tagovailoa banged up
4. Travis Etienne, Clemson
Last week, Clemson Tigers running back Travis Etienne made it absolutely impossible to ignore, jumping not only into these Heisman rankings, but into the middle of the pack as well. After the Tigers had a week off on Saturday though, Etienne again still was able to make a leap. With other formerly top candidates faltering, Etienne’s production and consistency now look even more impressive as he rises to No. 4.
Etienne is coming off of a string of four-straight games with at least 120 yards and a touchdown, including games of 203 and 167 yards in which he scored three times in each. On the year now, the Clemson star has 761 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground and an additional receiving touchdown. With Clemson facing a huge test in NC State next week, this could be his time to cement himself in this race at the top.
3. Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State
When Dwayne Haskins and the Ohio State Buckeyes won in the thriller over Penn State, the quarterback’s numbers looked great in the box score, but they were inflated by yards after catch and plays outside of what he did. As such, he dropped a bit in these rankings after that week. After the past two games from the redshirt sophomore, however, he’s making a case to rise back up.
After throwing for 455 yards and six touchdowns against Indiana last week, Haskins wasn’t done airing it out. The Buckeyes signal-caller went out and threw all over Minnesota to the tune of 412 yards and three touchdowns, this time with no interceptions to mar the stat line. If he can continue to rise to this level in conference play, Haskins could find himself in the top two once more soon.
