FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy basketball lineup – Oct 16, 2018
High Salary SG
Players costing over $6,667
Klay Thompson (vs OKC, $6,800): Needs 27.9 fantasy points. No Andre Roberson chasing him around the court will make Thompson’s life a lot easier. It’s unknown as of this writing who the Thunder will start at shooting guard, but no option is as good on defense as Roberson and the Warriors always find a way to get Thompson open looks, even though he’s the second best shooter in the league. Thompson’s value is largely tied to his scoring as he doesn’t rebound or pick up the primary assist, but the shots are always there and the matchup is good on Tuesday. Diagnosis: The most cost-effective Warrior. His ceiling is high and even if he needs to score to boost his value, there’s a lot to like about him against a position of weakness with OKC.
Dennis Schroder (at GS, $6,100): Needs 25 fantasy points. He’s under the cutoff, but it’s a slow night so I’m trying to give you as many options as possible. If Russell Westbrook doesn’t play, Schroder is a steal at shooting guard. He’s going to play big minutes with or without Westbrook in the lineup, but he’ll get more opportunities to contribute if Westbrook sits. There is a chance he actually starts at SG, but I actually like him less in that scenario. He’ll feast on bench units this season, but be the third option at best alongside Westbrook and George. Diagnosis: With or without Westbrook, he’s a good option. His value goes up without Westbrook, but he should still be in a strong contributing position as the backup point guard who gets points, rebounds, and assists.
Jaylen Brown (vs PHI, $5,900): Needs 24.2 fantasy points. Of all the Celtics players, Brown is the one I’m most concerned about. He’s already an inconsistent option, but with the Celtics getting healthy, there’s no defined role for him when it comes to fantasy numbers. His scoring will drop with Irving and Hayward in the lineup and he doesn’t add enough rebounding or assist numbers to really make up that value. His ceiling isn’t even that high due to all of the talent on the Celtics. Diagnosis: I’m in wait-and-see mode with Brown. I don’t trust him to put up big numbers on opening night with the Celtics healthy and find more value below him.
