4. Marcell Ozuna

First base isn’t a position of need for the Yankees, but left field absolutely is. That’s why fans should keep a close eye on Ozuna’s status with the Cardinals.

He isn’t the star some fans want to see come to the Bronx, but he’s a very solid starter. Ozuna quietly posted a WAR of 2.9 last season for the Cardinals. He’d also give Boone’s lineup one more decent power hitter. It’s very likely his home run total of 23 could rise while playing in Yankee Stadium.

Ozuna is another player who only has one year left on his current deal with his NL club. It’s very unlikely the Cardinals are going to pay big money to keep him in St. Louis. As such, it’s reasonable to assume they will listen to offers for him this winter.

The question is whether or not the Yankees would simply prefer to sign a free agent. That would cost the team more money, but it wouldn’t cost them any young talent in return. In the end, only keep an eye on Ozuna if Cashman strikes out on some bigger name targets. With that being said, he would represent a really solid backup plan for New York.
