4. Cardiff get first win

Two of the newly-promoted sides, Cardiff and Fulham, lock horns on Saturday in a battle at the bottom of the league. Both sides have struggled to find any kind of form in the Premier League, and look set for a long relegation battle.

Cardiff didn’t spend a lot of money over the summer, however, while Fulham invested over $120 million on new players, including big names like Jean Michael Seri and Andre Schurrle. The two teams, then, have very different problems.

The Bluebirds are simply being outplayed. Their two points have come from scrappy 0-0 draws, and in every other match they’ve looked disorganized and lacking in quality. The only up side for Neil Warnock right now is that his team have already played Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. Easier games will come.

Fulham, for their part, have looked good at times, but they’ve failed to match the quality of their passing game with the defensive intensity necessary to stay in this division, conceding 21 goals already, the most in the division.

Their weaknesses were glaring in their last match against Arsenal, which they lost 5-1, albeit conceding some magnificent goals. The Gunners are too good a team to give the sort of time Fulham gave them.

The Cottagers can play, but they seem to lack grit, while Cardiff are all grit and can barely play. With both sides likely to be battling relegation all season, this match is a big opportunity to get a rare win. Cardiff will take it, just.
