Newcastle vs. Brighton live stream: Watch Premier League online
By Warren Pegg
Newcastle face Brighton at St James’ Park on Saturday, Oct. 20. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The fixture list has been cruel to Newcastle — they’ve already played Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and both Manchester sides — which helps to explain why they’re one of only three winless teams in the league. Toward the end of last season, it was hard to disagree when Steven Gerrard described Rafa Benitez’s side as “a Championship squad with a Champions League manager.”
In this campaign, they’ve looked like a mid-table back-line with a relegation-zone attack – in xG terms, only Huddersfield have created poorer scoring opportunities. Two talented forwards – Yoshinori Muto and Salomon Rondon – arrived in the summer, but they’ve only managed one league goal between them so far. The decision to allow Dwight Gayle – Newcastle’s second-highest league scorer last season – to join West Brom on loan, where he’s already notched up eight goals and five assists, is looking more unwise by the week.
The biggest problem faced last season by Brighton, who currently sit six points and six places above Newcastle, was scoring goals – only three teams netted fewer. It’s an issue that they’ve been trying to address since January by bringing in the likes of Florin Andone, Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Juergen Locadia. However, it’s been 35-year-old Glenn Murray who’s again led the line this season. And he’s done so impressively, scoring five goals in the process.
