Running Backs

Todd Gurley, Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers – $9800

No surprise here. Todd Gurley is coming off a career high in rushing yards and has looked like the MVP at times this season. This week they travel to San Francisco to play the 49ers who rank 11th in points allowed to opposing running backs. Just like every week it’s tough to shy away from Gurley but you better hit on some value picks. He is once again the highest priced player of the week, and proven to be worth it consistently.

Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints @ Baltimore Ravens – $8500

If you are a season long fantasy player who owns Alvin Kamara you must be terrified. Mark Ingram returned to action and Kamara had an awful game two weeks ago. Now they travel to Baltimore to play the defense that ranks as the best giving up points to opposing running backs. Good news for Kamara is that the Saints understand that and may turn to the air more. Kamara clearly has a role and we saw him excel with Ingram a year ago. There just needs to be a little more evidence before ponying up that high price tag.

Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins – $8100

The Dallas Cowboys offense exploded at home against the NFL’s best defense a week ago. No one could have predicted that would have happened a week ago. Ezekiel Elliott is the work horse for this yo-yo offense. Now on the road in Washington, the Cowboys will need to turn to Elliott even more. Unfortunately Washington has surrendered the third fewest rushing yards on the season. It could be tough sledding for the Cowboys and Elliott against a fierce run defense on the road.

Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers @ Philadelphia Eagles – $7700

Another top running back in a tough matchup is Christian McCaffrey. The Carolina Panthers travel to Philadelphia to play the defending Super Bowl champions on Sunday. The Eagles have allowed the fourth fewest rushing yards and only two touchdowns on the ground this season. Where they are vulnerable is threw the air, which could be good news for McCaffrey. Philadelphia has allowed the ninth most receiving yards to running backs. This could be a big week for the former first round pick feasting on the weak part of the Eagles defense.

James White, New England Patriots @ Chicago Bears – $6900

An odd spot for James White of New England to crack the top five running back prices. However, White has a defined role on one of the NFL’s best offenses. In the DraftKings PPR format, White is a candidate for a big game weekly. This week against the Bears, clearly the price makers see the Patriots having to throw to have success, leading to White’s high price. Chicago has only given up one touchdown to a running back all season and it was through the air. White and Michel splitting time only hurts both their values.

Value Running Backs

LeSean McCoy, Buffalo Bills @ Indianapolis Colts – $5600

A hard spot for running backs this week have me sliding down the rankings to find a familiar name in LeSean McCoy. The talented Bills running back will likely see a new quarterback under center in Derek Anderson this week. That is good news giving McCoy the focus of the offensive game plan. Anderson will also be quick to check it down to the talented back with the Colts surprisingly strong pass rush heading his way.

Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers – $3600

Was there any doubt that Nick Chubb was going to make the cut this week? A rare midseason trade between the Browns and Jaguars has officially opened the door for the talented rookie second round pick. Cleveland must have a ton of faith in Chubb to deal Carlos Hyde for a fifth round pick. Good news for daily players is that Chubb is set to get a ton of work, including the goal line work, against a very friendly fantasy defense in Tampa. The Georgia product will appear in a ton of lineups today.
