NFL quarterback rankings, Week 8: Mitchell Trubisky must improve

8. Kirk Cousins (LW: 6)

Cousins has thrown for more yardage (2,162) than anybody not named Patrick Mahomes. The Vikings are sitting at 4-2-1 largely because the offense has produced, something credited to Adam Thielen and Cousins more than anybody else. Minnesota is rounding into form, and it has the quarterback to make a major run.

7. Matt Ryan (LW: 7)

Ryan deserves to be consistently thought about when the conversation turns to top-tier quarterbacks. The 2016 MVP is having another fantastic year, helping Atlanta stay on the cusp of the playoff picture despite being the most injury-ravaged team in the NFL.

6. Jared Goff (LW: 5)

If Todd Gurley wasn’t gobbling up every touchdown in sight, maybe Jared Goff would be the frontrunner for the MVP. As things stand, Goff is rolling forward with a great season, throwing for 2,130 yards with 14 touchdowns against only five interceptions. The Rams are the best teams in the league, and Goff is at the head of it all.

5. Philip Rivers (LW: 8)

Rivers is quietly putting together one of the best seasons in the league. At age 36, Rivers continues toward his Hall of Fame candidacy down the line, tossing 17 touchdowns through seven weeks as the Chargers into the bye week. Los Angeles is playing great, and Rivers is the glue that holds it all together.
