Like Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III is having a breakout sophomore season

The Alabama Crimson Tide aren’t totally reliant on Jerry Jeudy to make this offense go. In fact, while he is the leader in every receiving category, there are still several other highly productive players at the position. One such player is Henry Ruggs III who is having a breakout year of his own in 2018.

Henry Ruggs III, like Jerry Jeudy, was limited in how many catches he was able to get in 2017. Calvin Ridley had an incredible season, but that kept other receivers from getting significant opportunities to get the ball. It’s just the nature of the position. But, this season, that’s not exactly the case. Tua Tagovailoa has been able to spread the ball around and get players like Ruggs involved more frequently.

During the 2017 season, Ruggs’ freshman year, he only had 12 receptions. In 2018, that number has already doubled. Last season Henry Ruggs III had 229 yards and six touchdowns. So far this season, he already has 444 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Needless to say, Henry Ruggs III is having a great season and will likely continue to have a great one alongside Jerry Jeudy.

When Henry Ruggs III was a recruit, he was highly sought after by the best college football programs in the country. Aside from Alabama where he ultimately landed, Ruggs also held offers from Michigan, Georgia, Florida State, Auburn, Penn State, and many others. The five-star recruit from Birmingham, Alabama ultimately decided to go to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he is currently part of one of the best offenses in the nation.
