8. Houston Cougars (6-1) American Athletic Conference

The Houston defense had their struggles with the Navy option running game. The Midshipmen ran up and down the field for 349 yards on the ground. The Cougars found themselves trailing by 10 at two points in the second quarter. That’s when Houston quarterback D’Eriq King put the team on his back. The Cougars offense scored four touchdowns from the end of the second quarter into the fourth, turning a 24-14 deficit into a 42-24 lead. The Cougars’ defense then got into the act, returning an interception for a touchdown to make it 49-24. Navy made a small run late to make it a 49-36 final. King ended up with impressive numbers again. He threw for 413 yards and three scores and ran for 56 yards and another touchdown. The Cougars have a big showdown this weekend, taking on the undefeated USF Bulls.

Up next: Saturday vs South Florida.

7. San Diego State Aztecs (6-1) Mountain West Conference

The Aztecs hold their spot after a closer-than-it-should-have-been win over 0-7 San Jose State. Ryan Agnew and the Aztec offense couldn’t get much going, as he threw for only 86 yards in the 16-13 win. Chance Bell and Chase Jasmin handled most of the offensive load, combining for 160 yards rushing on 34 carries. Kicker John Baron II may have been the player of the game. Baron hit three field goals, including a 51-yarder with 4:36 left, to help SDSU get the win.

Up next: Saturday at Nevada.
