4. Fresno State Bulldogs (6-1) MWC

Fresno State continues to look impressive. Both sides of the ball were in full control in the team’s 38-7 win over New Mexico in Week 8. Marcus McMaryion had another efficient game, completing 20/30 passes for 280 yards and three scores. Two of the touchdowns went to stud receiver KeeSean Johnson (no relation to Keyshawn), who finished with eight catches for 149 yards.

Up next: Saturday vs. Hawaii.

3. South Florida Bulls (7-0) AAC

South Florida apparently expected to walk over an underwhelming 1-5 UConn team on Saturday. The Bulls played a sloppy first half. Quarterback Blake Barnett threw interceptions on their first two drives, and the team was shut out until their last drive of the first half. Johnny Ford ran 15 yards for a touchdown to cap an 80-yard drive with 43 seconds left in the half to tie the game at 7.

The second half brought an offensive onslaught. Barnett had one touchdown passing and one running. Ford had two more scores to finish with 164 yards on only seven rushes. The Bulls took a 31-14 lead early in the 4th quarter. The Husky running game gave USF trouble all game. Quarterback David Pindell and running back Kevin Mensah combined for 317 yards on the ground on 47 carries. Eventually, the Bulls survived with a 38-30 win to remain undefeated.

Up next: Saturday at Houston.
