2. Texas A&M Aggies

Rank: 16 | Opponent: Mississippi State Bulldogs | Time: 7 p.m. ET

Jimbo Fisher agreeing to come to be the head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies — and taking a boatload of cash to do so in the process — shook up the college football landscape. Having said that, though, it’s already looking like it could start paying off in a big way for this program. After a tepid start and then falling to Alabama, the Aggies have now won three-straight SEC games and appear primed for another battle.

Fisher and quarterback Kellen Mond have proven to be warriors this season. No one is going to mistake this Texas A&M group as one of the most talented in the country from top-to-bottom. What makes their new head coach so great, however, is his ability to put his guys in the best position to succeed.

Having said that, utilizing such a strategy doesn’t work when you come up against a plethora of top-tier talent. That’s going to be the case on Saturday evening as the Aggies go on the road to face off with one of the most talent-laden defenses in the country, the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

There are viable questions about Nick Fitzgerald and the Mississippi State offense, but this defense is stout. From Jeffery Simmons to Montez Sweat, this group has been dominant all season, having allowed more than 20 points just once this season. Though they might be up-and-down on offense, there is reason to think that their defense could control this game and throw the mid-tier of the SEC into more disarray.
