3. Scream

You’re probably thinking, “Wait… isn’t Scream already a movie? In fact, isn’t it a series of horror movies?” And you’re right. There are four Scream movies for horror fans to watch each Halloween (or whenever you’re looking for that meta-slasher thrill), but MTV also turned the Wes Craven films into a shockingly watchable anthology series. If you’re looking for more screams that only Ghostface can provide, look no further than Scream.

Rather than centering on a random Ghostface killer, Scream revives the setup of the films to include a haunting mythology. Centered in the town of Lakewood, Emma Duval and her fellow students have grown up hearing the stories about Brandon James and the killings he once conducted. Soon, a serial killer wears the infamous Brandon James mask and plucks off Emma’s friends one by one, revealing a shocking connection to the town’s legends.

Scream spent two seasons with Emma Duval and the story of Brandon James before being renewed for a third season, which rebooted the story with a new cast and a fresh location to honor the original horror franchise. While that season has yet to air on MTV, the first two seasons of the slasher mystery are streaming on Netflix. The TV take on one of the greatest horror movies will be your new answer to Ghostface’s famous question: “What’s your favorite scary movie?”

Similar scares: For more slasher film frenzy on TV, Ryan Murphy’s two-season anthology series Scream Queens went full camp. The series turns up the satirical humor and irreverent self-awareness of the Scream franchise to brand-new heights.
