5 shows that are basically horror movies (and perfect for Halloween)

1. The Haunting of Hill House
Even though horror movies are more popular than ever (the latest Halloween sequel topped the box office and smashed all kinds of records), TV shows have been getting increasingly scarier. And what’s scarier than waiting a week to watch the latest episode of a horror series? Having access to the entire season to binge-watch in a weekend and ensure you’ll never sleep again. That’s what Netflix unleashed with The Haunting of Hill House.
Based on the 1959 novel of the same name, The Haunting of Hill House begins in the summer of 1992 when a couple and their children move into a mansion. After being surrounded by supernatural experiences and a tragic loss, the family moves out of the house. The siblings reunite in the house 26 years later following another tragedy, and their return to the mansion forces them to confront their inner demons and a few of those that still live in the mansion.
The Haunting of Hill House quickly earned rave reviews from critics and audiences alike upon release, becoming one of the newest must-binge phenomenons on Netflix. Clearly, nothing unites the world like shared horror, whether it’s the state of the world or a horror series. This Halloween and all of those thereafter, turn on The Haunting of Hill House when you’re in need to a good scare. After all, it’s basically a horror movie.
Similar scares: While Netflix’s new hit series has been deemed super scary, The CW’s long-running pseudo horror movie Supernatural offers watered down but still haunting stories.
