3. Thairo Estrada

Estrada isn’t the most talented guy in the system, but there’s a steadiness to his game that really appeals to scouts inside the organization. Fans probably should hope the team has better options in the middle-infield this year, but it’s possible Estrada could break into the mix.

The 21-year-old’s stock dropped a little this season after missing time due to a gunshot wound during a robbery attempt back in Venezuela. It didn’t cost him the entire season, but it certainly didn’t help his development. He’s still the No. 16 prospect in the organization.

Obviously, Didi Gregorius’ injury has raised a lot of questions about who will play second and short next season for the Yankees. Gleyber Torres will play in one of those spots, but the other position is, at the moment, up for grabs.

It’s very likely Cashman will make a free agency signing to fill the gap, but if he doesn’t, it could become a battle between Wade, Ronald Torreyes and Estrada for at bats. Wade and Torreyes are probably a little more ready at the moment, but Estrada has more upside. At the very least, look for him to push for a September call-up if he enjoys a solid season.
