Southampton and Newcastle are both near the bottom of the Premier League table ahead of their game on Saturday at St. Mary’s Stadium. The Saints are 16th with six points, while the Magpies are last with only two points. While Southampton have a four-point advantage over Newcastle, the two teams have actually scored and conceded the exact same number of goals. Saturday’s game could play a large role in determining which of the clubs are able to stay up at the end of the season.
Southampton are winless over their last five games, settling for a scoreless draw against Bournemouth in their last game. The Saints have won only one game this season while struggling to score goals. Southampton have scored only six goals this season, with Danny Ings leading the club with three goals but he has not scored in over a month. While most teams are usually better at home, Southampton are still looking for their first win at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Newcastle are still looking for their first win of the season after losing their third straight game last weekend. The Magpies have also struggled to score goals this season. Joselu leads the club in goals, scoring two of the club’s six goals. Scoring goals was also a problem for Newcastle last season. The club signed Yoshinori Muto to help find the back of the net. However, the Japanese striker has scored only one goal.
