Here’s what every NFL team’s grade is at midseason
Buffalo Bills
The fact that the Bills are 2-6 despite averaging 10.9 points per game is pretty amazing. It still isn’t a statistic that should be worn as a badge of honor by Sean McDermott and company. This offense his historically bad.
In fairness, the injury to Josh Allen has negative impacted the group. The rookie isn’t great, but he’s at least flashed the capability of making big plays. Nathan Peterman can make big plays too, but they’re almost always for the other team.
All of the offensive struggles have obscured the fact that the Bills defense is actually pretty good. They rank sixth in the league in yards allowed per game. The fact that they rank 19th in scoring defense is greatly influenced by the offense’s ineptitude.
No one expected the Bills to be good this season so we aren’t going to grade them negatively for their record. Instead, our issue is with the team’s lack of direction. There’s no clear plan on how Buffalo is going to be a better football team in 2019. Relying exclusively on internal improvement from Allen isn’t enough.
