Chicago Bears

The Bears raised the stakes for their season the minute the acquired Khalil Mack just before the start of the regular season. The fact that Matt Nagy has his team sitting in second place in the NFC North means they’re pretty close to where most people expected them to be.

How you grade their season hinges largely on what you think about Mitchell Trubisky. He’s looked brilliant at times this season, but he’s also been atrocious on occasion. There’s no reason an offense with this kind of scheme and talent should be 21st in the NFL in passing yards.

The addition of Mack, along with rookie linebacker Roquan Smith has elevated the Bears’ defense firmly into the top half of NFL units. They could be a little better against the pass, but they’ve done an excellent job controlling the line of scrimmage. The pass rush has looked downright dominant at times this season.

Despite the defensive stride, the struggles of Trubisky at quarterback drag the grade down considerably. This organization needs to ask themselves whether or not he’s worth their trust moving forward. They don’t want to end up with a Blake Bortles type situation on their hands.
