Here’s what every NFL team’s grade is at midseason
Dallas Cowboys
Critics of the Cowboys’ offseason made it plain they didn’t think Dallas was giving Dak Prescott enough weapons to succeed. The team’s recent decision to give up a first round pick for Amari Cooper is an admission of that mistake.
Unfortunately for fans in Big D, the team has already dug itself a significant hole. They head into their Week 8 bye at 3-4. There’s a distinct possibility they’ll need to go 7-2 down the stretch to make the playoffs. This team isn’t talented enough to make that happen.
The star of the season has definitely been Ezekiel Elliott. The talented running back has successfully grinded out yards even when opposing defenses load the box against them. It will be very interesting to see what he might be able to do if Cooper can give the passing game a significant lift.
The real question for the team moving forward is whether or not they want to commit to Dak Prescott as their quarterback of the future. It’s difficult to determine whether or not his struggles are due to a lack of receivers or his own lack of talent. Again, the Cooper acquisition should help the franchise make a more educated decision.
This still feels like a lost season for the Cowboys. They talked a big game in the preseason about winning the division and that’s not going to happen. As you might imagine, that will hurt their midterm grade.
