Liverpool: Mohamed Salah’s form

Liverpool have become darlings of world soccer. Since their impressive run to the Champions League final last year, Jurgen Klopp’s men have continued their upward trajectory and have become a viable title threat to City. The attacking trio of Roberto Firminho, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane look to be regaining the insane chemistry of last season and the defense looks to be nearing elite status thanks to the incredible performances of defensive totem Virgil Van Dijk and Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

One area that continues to be a potential weakness is the midfield. Klopp has a lot of options — Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Fabinho have all played in the middle this season — but they perhaps lack the explosivity brought last season by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Keita could bring that quality, but has yet to really show it yet.

Still, the midfield should not be the biggest fear of this sound Liverpool squad. That should be the form of Salah, who has had a middling start to 2018-19 after scoring 44 goals in all competitions last term. Through 10 games, he has five goals. A decent number but paltry compared to what is expected of the brilliant Egyptian. If Liverpool are to seriously challenge City for the title, they’ll need to have Salah at his best.
