Chelsea: Struggling center forwards

Going down 2-1 at home to ex-manager Jose Mourinho and rival Manchester United had to give many Chelsea fans nightmares. Thankfully, Ross Barkley appeared in the box in the 96th minute, hammering home a deflected shot to save Chelsea’s undefeated season.

Through 10 games, Maurizio Sarri’s Blues have been impressive, winning seven games and only dropping points in draws against United, Liverpool and West Ham. The possession-controlling system of Sarri seems to be taking hold within the minds of Chelsea players, as the Blues have been playing some beautiful soccer early in the season. The main reason for this is the current form of their Belgian star Eden Hazard, who leads the league with seven goals scored in nine appearances.

Should Chelsea fans be fearful of the back injury Hazard picked up after being harassed by Ashley Young last weekend? Absolutely, but the injury seems minor and Hazard should be back to his fleet-footed self soon.

With the Belgian still in fine form, the shock and horror of Chelsea fans resides in the nightmare that is their striker position. Alvaro Morata seems to be seeing ghosts and has had terrifying troubles finishing easy chances in the box. With three goals in nine appearances, Morata’s form is a cause for concern. Add in World Cup winner Olivier Giroud, who hasn’t scored at all in the league this year, and Chelsea have a scary striking situation on their hands.
