8. D.J. Moore, WR, Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers may have found a new great target for Cam Newton in D.J. Moore, who put together the best performance of his young career in Week 8. This year’s 24th overall pick out of Maryland, Moore caught 5 passes for 90 yards in a win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Moore’s efficiency and versatility were alarming, because not only did he amass 90 receiving yards on 6 targets, but he also added 39 rushing yards on two carries. This season, Moore has been highly effective whenever the Panthers have dialed up rushing plays for him, and that could become a nice added bonus for fantasy owners going forward.

Given his draft pedigree and his standing in the Panthers offense, Moore could become a key, high-upside fantasy pick-up for owners looking to make a playoff push. He has taken full advantage of Torrey Smith’s injury and just might be the better option in the Panthers offense, even considering how solid of a player Smith has been throughout his career.

The lone issue with Moore is that he doesn’t score touchdowns often, as those targets are more likely to go to Devin Funchess and Christian McCaffrey. Moore, however, has a 75.0% catch rate to go with his 15.6 yards per reception, so it’s only a matter of time before Newton starts to entrust him with more targets.
