3. D’Eriq King amasses another six touchdowns (at least)

Houston Cougars quarterback D’Eriq King led his team into their biggest game of the season last week, taking on the previously undefeated South Florida Bulls. This was the Cougars’ chance to prove that they were among the class of the AAC this season and King made sure they were able to do that.

The junior quarterback went out and had a performance for the ages against the Bulls, going 28-of-40 for 419 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions on the day, but he didn’t stop there. King also gashed South Florida with his legs on the day, taking off 12 times and amassing 132 yards rushing, in addition to finding the end zone twice more on the day. In doing so, King put his name firmly in the Heisman conversation with 39 total touchdowns on the year after that.

After taking on a huge test last week, King and the Cougars will go on the road to face a SMU Mustangs team that has been struggling for the most part this season, entering this game with just a 3-5 record on the season. More importantly, the Mustangs have been lackluster against high-level competition, falling to their three toughest opponents to this point (TCU, Michigan, UCF) by an average of 27.7 points per game.

Given their struggles against top-tier opponents to this point, King and Houston are going to have a field day on Saturday afternoon and set the SMU defense in their rearview mirrors. In the process, the quarterback will further solidify his Heisman candidacy with another six (or more) trips to the end zone.
