2. Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma

Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners predictably found themselves in a shootout with the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock on Saturday night and, admittedly, Murray actually struggled out of the gate, throwing an interception on his first two drives of the game and allowing the Red Raiders to take a 14-0 lead. However, he stepped up when it mattered in a big way.

Murray finished the game going 20-of-35 for 360 yards and three touchdowns to help negate his two picks. What’s more, the speedy signal-caller accrued his first 100-yard rushing performance on the season, hitting that mark on the dot and scoring once more with his legs. Murray now has 38 total touchdowns on the year and seems firmly entrenched as the No. 2 Heisman candidate.

1. Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama

Coming into the 10th week of the 2018 season, the biggest matchup was Tua Tagovailoa’s Alabama Crimson Tide taking on their toughest opponent yet, the LSU Tigers. More specifically, the leading Hesiman Trophy candidate was gong to be put to the test against a good defense really for the first time this season. While he actually had to play in the fourth quarter and threw his first interception of the year, the true sophomore passed his trial in primetime.

Tagovailoa threw for 295 yards on 25-of-42 passing, hitting two throws to the end zone, while also adding another phenomenal rushing touchdown on a 44-yard scamper. He was a star once again on the biggest stage, making plays against one of the best defenses of the country. Put simply, Tua would have to have a historic collapse to lose the award at this point.
