6. Ernie Kent, Washington State

Expectations can’t be incredibly high for basketball at Washington State, but even with that Kent’s 47-77 record (18-54 in the Pac-12) over four seasons is outright dismal. Going back to his last two seasons at Oregon, he has a .380 winning percentage over his last six seasons as a head coach with a 27-81 record in Pac-12 play. Over those six seasons, a Kent-coached team has reached .500 once.

One point in Kent’s corner this year is forward Robert Franks, the reigning Pac-12 Most Improved Player who threw his hat in the ring for the NBA Draft but decided to come back to Washington State for his senior season. But the Cougars have been hit hard by transfers during Kent’s tenure, including five after last season who have been replaced by five JUCO transfers in something of a win-now move by Kent.

Kent has yet to win more than 13 games in a season at Washington State. A thin Pac-12 should help this year, along with Franks being back as one of the best players in the conference, but the heat is clearly on Kent before the new season tips off.
