Josh Adams, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles backfield in a state of flux, but if anyone looks poised to emerge as the team’s top option on the ground following their Week 9 bye, it’s Josh Adams.

An undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame, Adams was Philadelphia’s most effective ball-carrier in the team’s Week 8 victory over the luckless Jacksonville Jaguars, as he churned out 61 yards on 9 carries. Though Wendell Smallwood picked up a big touchdown reception on a screen play, which wasn’t called back this time, it was Adams who emerged as the more intriguing fantasy football option going forward.

The Eagles also have Corey Clement lurking in the running back picture, but Adams looks like the best bet to finally replace the production lost by Jay Ajayi at the top of the depth chart. It’s unclear how much Adams can offer the Eagles in the passing game, especially since Smallwood has made some splash plays as a receiver lately, as he caught just one pass for six yards in Week 8.

Still, Adams’s 5.4 yards per carry average on the season sets him apart, and he’s a good candidate to have a breakout performance against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10, assuming Doug Pederson rewards him with an increased workload against the NFC East rivals.
