Elijah McGuire, RB, New York Jets

Finding quality option at the running back position isn’t easy, and fantasy football owners in deeper leagues are simply hoping to find someone who can earn touches in an offense. The New York Jets have received some putrid performances from Sam Darnold lately in the passing game, indicating that a run-heavy attack could be in the cards going forward.

If that’s the case, then Elijah McGuire is a smart fantasy add as the No. 2 back behind Isaiah Crowell. It isn’t inconceivable for McGuire to usurp Crowell as the top back, too, because Crowell has been inefficient and frustratingly inconsistent as a rusher this season.

Crowell’s never been a true standout in this league, but he’s failed to average 4.0 yards per carry in his last four games. He had two tremendous performances against the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions this season, rushing for over 200 yards against Denver, but Crowell has fallen flat lately.

In Week 9, the workload between McGuire and Crowell was pretty much an even split. Though Crowell was slightly more efficient on the ground, both running backs were essentially as effective as each other in their sub-4.0 yards-per-carry performances. McGuire, however, adds more in the passing game, as he out-gained Crowell overall by catching 3 passes for 37 yards. With Bilal Powell out for the season, McGuire is worth adding in fantasy leagues.
