NFL Week 10 picks against the spread
By Nick Villano
Washington Redskins @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3)
This line says a lot about how one week changes things. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a worse record than the Redskins. They are no where near the top of their division, while the Redskins are leading the NFC East. Yet, somehow, the Bucs find themselves the favorites in this matchup.
The Falcons took apart the Redskins last week. Now, Vegas has lost all confidence in them. Alex Smith isn’t the most confidence-inducing quarterback in the league, but he’s good enough to win.
The Bucs have Fitzmagic. Last week, they went down 35-7. Ryan Fitzpatrick brought them back all the way to within one score. It seems like unless he’s down 20, or a major underdog, Fitzpatrick turns back into a pumpkin. This seems like one of those pumpkin games for the Bucs.
Washington 21 Tampa Bay 20
Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets (-6.5)
Yuck.
We won’t spend a lot of time on this game, because if you’re betting it that means you have to watch it. Nobody wants that. However, if you can use this to make money, I suppose it’s worth it.
Who knows who is going to start at quarterback for the Bills this week. Hopefully it is Nathan Peterman, because we would love to bet against him. It could be Matt Barkley, who somehow finds himself still in the league. It might be Derek Anderson as he comes back from his concussion. Josh Allen could be well enough after his elbow injury. Who knows. The Bills don’t even know.
The Jets aren’t great, but the sheer number of opportunities they’ll have on offense, and the opposing offense’s lack of ability to take advantage of their mistakes will allow them to score.
