6. Saquon Barkley vs San Francisco

The Giants aren’t good, clearly. Barkley is a stud, there’s no doubt about that. The Giants needed a passer with Eli on the way out but at least this writer will say they made the right choice with Barkley. It’s a generational type talent. The Giants wouldn’t be any closer to winning with Darnold or Rosen or Allen than they are right now.

Barkley is the key to this offense, especially when Odell goes silent. Halfway through their schedule, Barkley has 511 yards on the ground to go with 497 through the air and seven total touchdowns. That’s overshadowed somewhat week to week by the team’s performance but that’s unheard of. He’s nearing the Kamara numbers that were stunning last year.

The Giants and the red zone aren’t friends and Barkley’s numbers back that up. 61 of his 111 carries have come just past their own 20 to midfield. In the red zone? 15 carries for, 29 yards and three touchdowns. Shy of midfield? 61 carries for 408 yards and two touchdowns.

San Francisco is a weird team with scoring potential that’s hit or miss it seems every week. Could the Giants get their second win this week? Barkley will be a big factor in that.
