Group of 5 rankings: Could Utah State steal UCF’s New Year’s Six bowl?
By Daniel Stave
2. Utah State Aggies (MWC) 9-1
Utah State became only the 17th team in college football history to put up 800 yards of offense in their 62-24 win over San Jose State in Week 11. It was a real “Love fest,” as USU’s Jordan Love threw for a career-high 491 yards and five touchdowns, while SJSU’s Josh Love (no relation) had 210 yards passing, one touchdown and two interceptions in the game.
The Aggies shouldn’t have too much trouble this weekend with Colorado State, but will likely have to win at Boise State to clinch their division title. Stat of the Week: the win was Utah State’s sixth game scoring 56 or more points this season, and they have scored 42 points in eight of their ten games this season.
Up next: Saturday at Colorado State.
1. Central Florida Knights (AAC) 9-0
UCF was in control throughout their 35-24 win over Navy last Saturday. The Knights raced out to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. McKenzie Milton was efficient throwing the ball, completing 17 of 21 passes for 200 yards and a pair of touchdown passes to Dredrick Snelson. Greg McCrae hit the century mark with 101 yards rushing and a score. Adrian Killins Jr. was the other half of UCF’s backfield tandem, with 83 yards on 14 rushes. Milton also chipped in on the ground with 62 yards and another touchdown.
Saturday’s game against Cincinnati will be the first time Orlando has hosted College Gameday.
