Yankees should trade Miguel Andujar for one of these five aces
4. Max Scherzer
Some might argue that the Yankees have already missed their chance to acquire Scherzer, but there’s no reason Cashman can’t revisit the issue. If Bryce Harper does, as most expect, leave the Nationals this winter, Washington officials might be in the mood to sell of some of their other high-priced, veteran stars.
Scherzer definitely qualifies. He was one of the top starters in the National League in 2018. The Nationals didn’t enjoy a great season, but Scherzer did throw over 220 innings with an ERA of just 2.53.
Like deGrom, he would easily slot into the top of Boone’s rotation. At 34 years of age, he’s not a guy who will anchor the group for years to come, but he’d give the team a massive boost for the next several seasons.
The real challenge with this deal is that the Nationals don’t necessarily need a third baseman. Andujar’s bat would certainly be attractive to Washington officials, but he might not have a position to play in the nation’s capital. Still, Scherzer is a pitcher that Cashman would give a king’s ransom to acquire.
