Big Ten power rankings: Will Michigan blowout Ohio State?
By Ethan Lee
Oh, man did things not look good for Urban Meyer and Ohio State. The Buckeyes should have come into this week with something to prove right before their big rivalry game, but it looks like Ohio State didn’t take Maryland seriously. That almost cost this team a chance to make it into the Big Ten championship game, which is still in reach.
Ohio State is 10-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play. The last team that stands in Ohio State’s way of making it into the conference title game is Michigan this week. A win against the Wolverines and then a win in the Big Ten championship game against Northwestern might be enough to move Ohio State into the College Football Playoffs, but that seems unlikely. The Buckeyes must find a way to play better defense if they really want that scenario to happen, and Ohio State’s defense might just be done for the year.
Were the Michigan Wolverines exposed on Saturday or were they simply looking ahead to the upcoming game against Ohio State? More than likely, it’s the latter. Michigan was able to squeak past the Indiana Hoosiers and are now set to face off against the Buckeyes in a game that will impact the entire country.
The Wolverines and the Buckeyes will play for a chance to represent the Big Ten East in the conference championship game, but also for an opportunity to represent the Big Ten on a national level. The winner of this game will be the Big Ten’s only hope at making it into the College Football Playoffs and so, this game is crucial for the entirety of this conference.
