Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick

Josh Adams and Gus Edwards are far more interesting running back additions on the waiver wire this week, but fantasy football owners in PPR leagues could target Theo Riddick. The Detroit Lions have been sending him a relatively healthy dose of targets in recent weeks, mostly because a target-void has been left in the offense by YAC-monger Golden Tate, who was dealt to the increasingly desperate Philadelphia Eagles.

Riddick has caught at least five passes in each of the last three games, and while he isn’t really talented enough to make those targets count, he’s still eating up receptions for fantasy owners. In PPR leagues, that counts as production, even if Riddick is only averaging 6.4 yards per reception this season.

Sometimes, Riddick does have a big game, like when he caught six passes for 60 yards in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears. It should be stressed that Riddick is a desperation play, though, because he is never used as a real running back and has just nine carries in eight games this season, averaging a measly 3.3 yards per carry.

Still, Riddick isn’t a woeful option, and he’s worth picking up on waivers as a backup running back if nothing better presents itself. Plus, Riddick could see his highest workload on the ground this week (though that isn’t saying much) with feature back Kerryon Johnson likely out on Thanksgiving Day with an injury.
