College football Week 13: 5 teams on upset alert
3. Florida Gators
Rank: 11 | Opponent: Florida State Seminoles | Time: Saturday, Nov. 24, Noon ET
Given the overall bodies of work for the rival Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles on the 2018 college football season, the former should ultimately dominate their rivals and break a losing streak against the team from Tallahassee. Of course, you can never count anything out from happening when it comes to a rivalry such as this one, but there’s more at play than just that.
For one, the Seminoles are actually coming off of one of their best games of the 2018 season. Last week, the Seminoles welcomed the then-20th-ranked Boston College Eagles to town and pulled off an upset in their fourth-straight matchup against a ranked opponent. While that was FSU’s only win over that stretch, it was still a nice game and perhaps their best overall effort of the season.
What’s more, though, Florida State has the advantage of playing against Feleipe Franks in this matchup on Saturday. Though the Gators have had a nice season and Franks has been improved from last season, he’s still proven to be prone to some awful play at times this season. His inconsistency can bite this Florida team at any given moment, which puts them in a tricky spot from time to time.
Though the Gators should be able to feast on the offensive line of Florida State, a unit that’s been abysmal this season, there is enough talent on this Seminoles roster that they can compete with Dan Mullen’s team. And with this game being played in Tallahassee with bowl eligibility on the line, we could see quite the shocking upset transpire.
