1. Oklahoma Sooners

Rank: 6 | Opponent: 13 West Virginia Mountaineers | Time: Friday, Nov. 23, 8 p.m. ET

On Friday night, if the Oklahoma Sooners are able to get past the West Virginia Mountaineers and they’ll play in the Big 12 Championship Game next week. The same, however, can be said of the Mountaineers, who will also find their way into the conference title game if they top Lincoln Riley’s team. Thus, the stakes for the Black Friday matchup in Morgantown are quite high.

Having said that, the stakes are a bit higher for the Sooners on a larger level. While winning the Big 12 is certainly on their radar, they still have a shot at something larger as they enter the final week of the 2018 regular season. Currently ranked sixth in the latest College Football Playoff poll, Kyler Murray’s team still has an outside shot at making it into the top four if they are able to win against West Virginia and then win in the Big 12 title matchup.

Despite their winning ways outside of the loss to Texas this season, though, Oklahoma hasn’t been playing their most impressive brand of football as of late. They’ve allowed at least 40 points in each of their last three games, including conceding 40 last week to a lowly Kansas team. That doesn’t bode well for a matchup against West Virginia.

Though the Mountaineers are a flawed and inconsistent team, Will Grier and Co. can put a big number up on the scoreboard. With the way that the Oklahoma defense has performed of late, that seems like a highly likely possibility and that could lead to the Sooners being on the ropes in a must-win game.
