Carolina Panthers-Christian McCaffrey

Coming into the year there were serious questions about whether or not McCaffrey could become an every down back in Carolina. The Panthers’ decision to waive C.J. Anderson this week emphatically answered any of those questions.

McCaffrey already has run the ball 136 times for 632 yards and four touchdowns. He also leads the team with 60 receptions for 496 yards and four additional scores. He’s a massive part of what Cam Newton and company do on offense.

The Stanford product still isn’t the best runner-up the middle, but that’s becoming less and less important for the Panthers offense. Norv Turner has come in and opened things up. That’s given McCaffrey a lot more chances to take advantage of linebackers and safeties who try to cover him one-on-one.

In the future the Panthers might look to diversify their options at tailback, but McCaffrey is the only guy worthy of defense’s attention in 2018. It was an easy call to name in Carolina’s  MVP through 11 weeks.
