Cincinnati Bengals-A.J. Green

We’d like to gently remind readers at this point in the piece that our MVP decisions are all based on what a player has done for his team to date. As such, Green’s foot injury doesn’t factor much into our calculations.

When Green has been healthy this season, he’s been absolutely dominant. The Bengals don’t have the most creative or dynamic offense in the NFL, but Green’s stellar ability to stretch a defense makes it really difficult to defend.

It’s important to remember that the former Georgia star has only played eight games this year, but he’s already racked up 45 catches for 687 yards and six touchdowns. Green is not a receiver who runs a ton of five-yard outs. Instead, he forces defensive backs to cover him way down the field. He produces a ton of yards himself, but he also opens tons of options up underneath for his teammates.

Unfortunately, Green’s status for the rest of the year is very much up in the air. He’s trying desperately to avoid surgery, but foot issues for a player who’s just turned 30 are nothing to play around with for the Bengals. If they fall out of the playoff race, the team may choose to shut him down as a precaution.
