Dallas Cowboys-Ezekiel Elliott

Everyone is singing Amari Cooper’s praises after the Cowboys offense magically opened up after his arrival in Dallas. Those people are ignoring just how good Elliott has been all season long. The Cowboys wouldn’t be sniffing the playoffs without his incredible production from the running back position.

His production against eight man fronts early this season was particularly impressive. Elliott has totalled 953 rushing yards this season on 191 carries and five scores. That’s a heavy load for any running back. Elliott makes it look really easy.

His rushing totals would have been enough to earn him the MVP honors by themselves. His receiving totals only make the case more compelling. In addition to his running exploits, he’s also caught 42 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns. He doesn’t run a lot of downfield routes, but he is a danger to break tackles once he catches the ball in space.

The hope for Jason Garrett and company is that the offense can open up more with Cooper in the fold. If that happens, look for Elliott’s efficiency to increase. That’s a scary thought for the rest of the NFC East.
