Last weekend, West Virginia had a chance to clinch a spot in the conference championship, but let it slip through their hands in a loss to Oklahoma State. The Mountaineers led by 10-points in the 4th quarter, but couldn’t hold on for the win. It was a heartbreaking loss for West Virginia, but their goal is still in sight and they control their own destiny on Friday night. While it’s never easy to bounce back from such a devastating loss, this team has already shown they are capable of rebounding and have shifted their focus to the Sooners.

Oklahoma is ranked 6th in the College Football Playoff poll and has an outside shot at securing a spot. First, they must take care of business in Morgantown and try to slow down the high-powered West Virginia offense. Since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12, Oklahoma holds a six-game winning streak over the West Virginia and are the only Big 12 team they have yet to defeat.

If you like watching two teams light up a scoreboard, this will be a game you won’t want to miss. With the lights on and a rocking atmosphere, expect these two teams to put on a show Friday night.

Keys to Victory

West Virginia – For the Mountaineers to finally get past Oklahoma, they must contain quarterback Kyler Murray. Over the course of the season, West Virginia has played relatively well defensively, but have struggled to contain opposing quarterbacks after a play breaks down. Last weekend, Oklahoma State quarterback Tyler Cornelius ran for 106 yards, mostly on broken plays. If the Mountaineers don’t account for Murray, it could be a long night for the West Virginia defense. However, if West Virginia can get a few stops, it may be all they will need to outscore the Sooners.

Oklahoma – Oklahoma will field one of the most explosive offenses in the country, but will pair it with one of the worst defenses in the Big 12. Over the past four games, Oklahoma has given up an average of 44 points and 546 yards per game but was able to out-score their opponent each week. As good as Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma offense has played, no team can continue to give up over 40 points and not slip up along the way. Especially against a West Virginia offense, led by quarterback Will Grier, that has the power to match you score for score. Murray will continue to get him but will need some help if the Sooners plan on advancing to the Big 12 Championship game.

Prediction

With the fire-power, these two schools will bring offensively, expect a true Big 12 shoot-out on Friday night. West Virginia will be able to get a few stops, but the Sooners defense will have no answer for Will Grier and company.

Final Score – West Virginia 59, Oklahoma 52
