8. Elijah McGuire, New York Jets vs. New England Patriots

Not much is going right for the New York Jets this season, as they are 3-7 and coming closer to firing head coach Todd Bowles. They could surprise fans this week against a reeling New England Patriots team that disappointed badly against Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans, but Tom Brady and the Pats are often at their best when wounded.

In order to win, the Jets must ride their running game, and it’s becoming clearer that Elijah McGuire gives this team a better chance to win than the wildly inconsistent Isaiah Crowell. Although Crowell’s had a pair of monster games this season, his production has faltered greatly over the past few games, and few backs have more volatile yards-per-carry swings on a game-to-game basis.

While McGuire isn’t a star in the Jets offense, he’s looked solid lately, picking up around 60 yards from scrimmage per game on just around 10 touches. He’s more well-rounded than Crowell and looks like a better bet to move the chains for rookie quarterback Sam Darnold.

In two appearances, McGuire is averaging 62 yards from scrimmage per game and 4.6 yards per carry. Adept at running the football and making plays in the passing game, McGuire’s receiving ability could be key against the Patriots, particularly in third-down situations. He’s worth keeping in mind as a Week 12 sleeper.
