Indianapolis Colts RB Jordan Wilkins

Although Nyheim Hines is the No. 2 running back for the Indianapolis Colts and will be the most popular addition in fantasy football leagues if Marlon Mack misses Week 13 with a concussion, Jordan Wilkins is the smarter add, especially in deeper leagues.

More available and more efficient on the ground, Wilkins has put together some promising statistics over the past few weeks despite only featuring in limited action. Though Wilkins didn’t register a single carry in the team’s Week 12 win over the Miami Dolphins, he had a career day as a receiver, catching all three passes thrown at him for 32 yards.

Wilkins’s work in the passing game is encouraging, because it means he could overtake Hines in touches going forward. Hines has been a quality player for the Colts in the passing game, and he’s improved as a rusher lately, getting up to 4.1 yards per carry after previously being a burden on the Colts offense with his inefficient rushing.

It’s clear that Hines is nothing more than a committee back, whereas the jury is still out on how much Wilkins could contribute. He’s averaged a whopping 5.6 yards per carry this season, with a few huge runs sprinkled in, such as a 53-yard effort in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Wilkins gets the Jaguars again in Week 13, and he’s earned more opportunities in the Colts offense. With Mack potentially out, Wilkins is an intriguing flier for fantasy owners.
