San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis

Running back Matt Breida, who wrecked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with 140 yards from scrimmage last week, is the only sure-fire play on the San Francisco 49ers offense. However, wide receiver Dante Pettis emerged as an intriguing late-round pick-up on waiver wires with a quality Week 12 performance against Tampa Bay.

Clearly benefitting from injuries to top wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin, Pettis led the way for the 49ers passing attack with four receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown. Pettis looked like the real deal, and when the 49ers get Goodwin and Garcon back, they could have a real cachet of weapons for either C.J. Beathard or Nick Mullens to work with to close out an injury-plagued 2018 season.

Goodwin and Garcon, of course, would greatly eat into Pettis’s value, since they are among the NFL’s better weapons at the wide receiver position. That said, both players are uncertain for Week 13, when the 49ers are scheduled to take on the rival Seattle Seahawks.

As such, Pettis is worth picking up in fantasy leagues, especially in deeper leagues. Perhaps this was a one-hit wonder performance from Pettis, but the 2018 second-round pick out of Washington has clear talent and showed it on Sunday. In all honesty, he might be a better receiver than Garcon at this stage of their careers, so this breakout game is a fantasy football development worth noticing.
