Austin Ekeler, RB, Los Angeles Chargers

Stats: five rushes, 35 yards, one touchdown, 10 receptions, 68 yards and 11 targets

The Los Angeles Chargers received some bad news on Sunday with Melvin Gordon suffering a MCL sprain. Gordon is having a great season and has been one of the more productive fantasy football running backs in the league.

His ability to contribute as both a runner and passer makes him a matchup proof play. Gordon was what made the Chargers offense flow.

Austin Ekeler is in line to replace Gordon and is someone you must target on the waiver wire. Ekeler has proven himself to be a very capable backup with starter potential. He has had his share of big fantasy performances already this year.

Just this past weekend he topped the 10 catch mark while contributing a rushing touchdown. The Chargers have shown a lot of trust in Ekeler and will likely try to keep their offensive game plan the same.

Once Gordon returns, Ekeler’s value drops significantly. However, he could have a productive few weeks and help you make the fantasy playoffs.

There really isn’t any certainty surrounding Gordon’s injury. It’s something that could keep him out a few weeks or longer.
