NBA Power Rankings: Who is headed for rock bottom?
By Ian Levy
This week it was the Clippers’ turn to trade off with the Grizzlies, Nuggets, and Blazers as the surprise team at the top of the Western Conference. They are in the top six in offensive efficiency and just outside the top-10 on the defensive side, despite entering the season without a “star player” and looking to attact one. Instead of going out and landing a star to hold the roster together, the Clippers have watched Tobias Harris develop into one.
Harris is averaging 21.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, shooting 56.5 percent inside the arc and 42.7 percent outside of it. Everything but the assist numbers there is a career-best mark. What’s been most incredible is how he’s grown as a primary scoring option. Just over 25 percent of his 2-point makes have been assisted on and he’s averaging 8.7 drives per game, about the same as Paul George or Ben Simmons. Harris is just 26 years old and his emergence has reshaped both the short and long-term trajectories of the Clippers.
