SEC: (1) Alabama vs (4) Georgia – Saturday 3:30 pm – CBS
SEC fans will be treated to a re-match of last years National Championship game when Alabama and Georgia face-off for the conference title. Both teams have a lot at stake, with Alabama looking to cap off an undefeated regular season and Georgia hoping to clinch a bid to the College Football Playoffs.
Although Georgia is one of the best in the country, Alabama is simply that much better. Over the course of the season, the Crimson Tide have yet to be challenged and have outscored opponents by an average of 35.5 points per game. In their last two games against ranked opponents, the combined score was 53-0. To this day, I have yet to see a team so explosive offensively, yet so dominate on the defensive end.
Speaking of offense, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has put together one of the best seasons in the history of Alabama football and has hardly played in the 4th quarter all season. When you throw three NFL caliber running backs alongside arguably the best quarterback in college football, it’s easy to see why this is the best offense in college football.
While Alabama looks unbeatable on paper, Georgia is the one team that may stand a chance of taking down the Crimson Tide. Last year, Georgia had a comfortable lead in the National Championship game, before Tagovailoa replaced quarterback Jalen Hurts and led Alabama to a historic comeback. In this year’s match-up, not much has changed for the Bulldogs, who still have a standout defense, led by cornerback Deandre Baker, and a strong offensive attacked, led by quarterback Jake Fromm and a stable of running backs.
Georgia showed they can compete with Alabama in last years National Championship, but this year’s Crimson Tide team looks to be on a mission. The Bulldogs will make the game competitive and cover the 14-point spread, but in the end, the Alabama defense will be too much for Georgia to handle.
