High Salary SF

Players costing over $6,667

Kevin Durant (at DET – $11,700): Needs 47.9 fantasy points. With Curry back in the lineup, I don’t have a good feel for Durant. He’s still a reliable player because the points and rebounds are always going to be there. But his ceiling goes way down. And as I mentioned earlier, this feels like a game where Curry goes off and reminds the world that the Warriors are unbeatable. Diagnosis: Will get numbers, but the salary is probably too high with Curry back.

Kawhi Leonard (at CLE – $10,400): Needs 42.6 fantasy points. A blowout looms in this one, which is the only reason I don’t like Leonard more. He managed just 39.6 fantasy points against the Cavaliers on opening night, but that was opening night. The Raptors have figured out plenty since then. Maybe the Raptors have a letdown after their big win against the Warriors. But if they play focused basketball, Leonard won’t get the minutes needed to have a big game. Diagnosis: If you think the Cavs can keep it close, take him with confidence.

Robert Covington (vs BOS – $7,300): Needs 29.9 fantasy points. I’ve loved Covington since the trade and he’s rarely let me down. He was at 39.3 fantasy points against the Spurs on Nov. 28. He gets big minutes in Minnesota and even when he’s not shooting well, he does enough in other areas to boost his value. He’s going to play a big role in this game and I trust him to get plenty of fantasy points. Diagnosis: Reliable, does a bit of everything, high ceiling.
