Players costing $6,667 or under

Ricky Rubio (at MIA – $6,400): Needs 26.7 fantasy points. Rubio has been all over the place this season, but he has flashed a high ceiling and he typically gets the minutes to contribute. The problem is, he’s not overwhelming in any one category right now and if he’s not scoring, the rest of his game usually suffers. The matchup is not great. Diagnosis: High ceiling and minutes are there. But a lot of red flags.

J.J. Barea (vs LAC – $5,900): Needs 24.7 fantasy points. Barea was down to 16.7 fantasy points against the Lakers on Nov. 30. You can also look at Dennis Smith Jr for $100 more as his minutes are more guaranteed. But Barea has played well on average lately and generally seems more comfortable on the floor. Chalk up the Lakers game to an off night and expect him to be better. Diagnosis: High ceiling and been reliable in recent games.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (at DAL – $5,400): Needs 22.6 fantasy points. SAG has been fantastic in the last couple of games, dropping 32.4 fantasy points on the Suns and 41 fantasy points against the Kings. Granted, it was the Suns and Kings. But it’s not like the Mavericks are that much better. SAG gets the minutes and can do a bit of everything. However, I will always caution against rookie because they are rookies. Diagnosis: Gets the minutes, good matchup, playing well. The only worry is rookie inconsistency.
