Doug Martin, Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs

After it seemed like the Oakland Raiders would give Jalen Richard the “hot hand” approach after a strong Week 11 performance, Charlie Garner 2.0 took a backseat to Doug Martin in the Raiders Week 12 loss to the even more run-heavy Baltimore Ravens.

Martin has turned back the clock in 2018, and his work in Week 12 was impressive from a fantasy perspective. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers fantasy football stud converted 11 rushing attempts into 51 yards and a touchdown, adding three receptions for 21 yards to boost his receiving stats.

While Martin has always been an effective running back on passing downs, the PPR value has been difficult to come by with Richard hoarding most of Derek Carr’s targets from out of the backfield. However, Martin now has two three-catch performances on the season and could feast against a lousy Chiefs linebackers corps that gives up 70 receiving yards per game to running backs, as per Football Outsiders.

With an average of 4.4 yards per carry, Martin has been one of the strongest skill position players on a 2-9 Raiders team. He is a must-start against the Chiefs, even if Richard figures to eat into his value more this week, given the fact that the Chiefs will likely put points on the board in a hurry.
