Chris Thompson, Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles

This is a critical game with playoff implications, and Washington has lost ground to the Dallas Cowboys, who have looked like a new team with star wide receiver Amari Cooper finally giving Dak Prescott a legitimate No. 1 target.

Meanwhile, Washington must learn to survive without veteran signal-caller Alex Smith, who did just enough to scrape this team by some tough matchups earlier in the season. In order to cope, Washington must lean on their running backs, with the ageless and controversial Adrian Peterson leading the way on the ground.

However, Chris Thompson is a more dynamic weapon and could prove to be a bigger X-Factor in the Burgundy and Gold’s offense. Thompson is one of the NFL’s elite pass-catching backs, and he had one outstanding performance this season with 13 receptions for 92 yards.

Colt McCoy is just as likely to dink-and-dunk to Thompson as Smith was, and Thompson could play a pivotal role in Washington’s Week 13, Monday Night Football contest against the Philadelphia Eagles, who are one of the weaker teams at defending running backs in the passing game.

Thompson just needs a little bit of space to spring a big play, and he was averaging over 60 yards from scrimmage before suffering a serious ribs injury. The third-down back will finally make his return on Monday, and fantasy football owners would be wise to keep an eye glued to the 28-year-old Florida State product.
