Justin Jackson, RB, Los Angeles Chargers

Austin Ekeler enjoyed some strong statistics in the running game and passing game behind Melvin Gordon, so he was expected to take another step forward in fantasy football with Gordon out for a few weeks due to a Grade 2 MCL sprain.

Instead, Ekeler took a step back, and Justin Jackson took full advantage, staking his claim as a must-add in fantasy leagues. Jackson was already on the radar after playing well in Week 12 when Gordon first went down, carrying the rock seven times for 57 yards.

He was even more explosive in Week 13 against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football, turning eight rushing attempts into 63 yards and his first career touchdown. Jackson even added a 19-yard reception to put an exclamation mark on his efficient day at the office.

Next week, Jackson will square off against one of the worst run defenses in the NFL in the Cincinnati Bengals. He’s earned more touches as a rusher and receiver after his game-breaking performance against Pittsburgh, and the Chargers coaching staff is opportunistic enough to pounce on a possible breakout player at running back.

Note that Jackson is averaging 6.4 yards per carry and 12.7 yards per reception so far this season, so his explosiveness could continue to boost the Chargers scary offense.
